Work samples

Take your time and browse through just a few examples of some of the resources I have created over the last 20 odd years.

Some were developed for clients as a private contractor, some are showcases of work developed while at TAFE NSW, some have been created for assessments whilst others just because I enjoy building cool educational stuff!

Gamification example

Have a Great Day! was a sustainability game I built in Articulate Storyline as I needed to enable scoring based on the learner’s choices as they worked through the activity. It was built for a game-based learning unit I was studying for my Masters in Education (Digital Technologies) and encapsulates best practice principles of gamification, e.g. no instructions required, ambience created using sound, etc.

Learning design example

Artifical Intelligence (AI) is not only revolutionising education in the context of academic integrity, but offering so many opportunities for content developers and learning designers.

I created this video in 30 minutes starting with creating a scenario dialogue request using generative AI ChatGPT, curating & uploading the script into Synthesia and developing using an avatar. I then exported the MP4 video and uploaded into YouTube to share.

Teaching with technology

While teaching ecotourism, I wanted to improve on the assessments that required students to write on paper a response to how they would react to certain scenarios or events when leading tours. Given my passion for inspiring to teachers to just grab their mobile phone and get more engaging, I filmed these videos in my front yard one afternoon for an assignment that asks students to respond via a mobile video. Videos uploaded and shared via YouTube. Now THAT is an authentic and more realistic way to assess our students!!

The poor intro

The unplanned event

The Fluffy scenario

Gamification example

This was a very light, short gamification activity I built for a facilitation I was preparing for teachers. I did not end up including it as I had to cull some content but a small example of what I think is an engaging scenario, demonstrating a great hook to increase engagement and interest in the activity. Built in Articulate Storyline and disclaimer I have no aviation knowledge or experience and I did not consult any pilot SMEs as it was just for a bit of fun!

Change management

During the pandemic years of 2020-21, great attention was given to staff wellbeing and building pride on what we were achieving during challenging times.

This is a video I created using Biteable to promote both the work we were doing in the Systems Group at TAFE NSW and also the great work every staff member was contributing.

Shared via Vimeo at the time but now moved into YouTube.

Teaching with technology

The opportunities and risks of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) for education has been a major focus of my work over the last two years.

I created this video by uploading myself into HeyGen to demonstrate to teachers and learning designers both the incredible opportunities and possibilities but also the risks associated with sharing personal and organisational intellectual property. Video exported and shared via YouTube.

Community engagement

When I left National Parks & Wildlife Services in 2013 I started a Landcare Group called Clarence Valley Conservation in Action - the CIA. The main focus of this group was to engage and inspire the local community to pitch in and assist with the manual control of cane toads as we were attemping to hold the southern line in NSW from spreading further south. This video was part of the community engagement I ran, shot with a Go-Pro on my head one night toading, cut and edited in Abobe Premiere Pro and then shared via Youtube.
